Illuminated Onyx Bar at The Chesterfield Hotel, Mayfair
Spanlite delivered a bespoke illuminated onyx bar for the newly developed rooftop terrace at The Chesterfield Hotel in Mayfair. We sourced and coordinated the fabrication of Turkish Chocolate Onyx, designed the bar structure, and integrated tunable backlighting throughout. As a result, the bar now forms the centrepiece of the space, creating a warm and inviting focal point for guests.
PROJECT OVERVIEW
Spanlite worked with Northlight Architects and The Chesterfield Hotel to realise the complete bar scheme, including the curved bar front, back bar counter, vanity unit surfaces and lift lobby lighting feature. We managed the stone sourcing and fabrication through our trusted partners, developed the supporting bar structure, and directed the sequence of specialist installers on site.
The curved stone panels and roll-top bar edge required precise formwork and coordination to achieve consistent alignment. In addition, we integrated our tunable white Spanlite Matrix system (1800K–6500K) to illuminate the onyx, allowing the colour tone of the stone to be adjusted to suit the atmosphere of the space.
For the lifts, Spanlite supplied and installed bespoke LED Light Sheet panels behind etched glass, maintaining a cohesive lighting aesthetic across the interior
TECHNICAL DETAIL
The bar frontage, counter surfaces and vanity tops were produced using real Turkish Chocolate Onyx, sourced and fabricated to Spanlite specifications. The curved bar ends and roll-top profile required custom formwork to ensure the stone followed the intended geometry with accurate joint alignment. This approach enabled the natural veining to run continuously across the bar front.
Backlighting was delivered using Spanlite Matrix panels set to tunable white 1800K–6500K, allowing the warmth of the illumination to be adjusted for different service settings. After installation, our team commissioned the system on site to ensure even light distribution and consistent tone across all surfaces.
The lift lobby lighting feature was completed using LED Light Sheet behind etched glass panels. Therefore, the lighting language remains consistent throughout the terrace and lobby areas, reinforcing the project’s design continuity.
