Bespoke Glass Wall Partitions – Skin Tattoo Studio, Soho NYC

Bespoke glass wall partitions shape the interior of Skin Tattoo Studio in Soho, New York. Spanlite designed and supplied thirty Edge Lit Glass panels that divide the studio floor while preserving light, openness and brand identity.

Working alongside Logan Stone Inc and designer Elizabeth Randelman, we developed a coordinated system that combined printed glass, structural detailing and LED edge-lighting. As a result, the studio achieves privacy between work areas without losing visual continuity.

PROJECT OVERVIEW

Spanlite was appointed to deliver bespoke glass wall partitions for the main studio space. The concept required illuminated panels that would separate treatment areas while maintaining a clean, industrial aesthetic appropriate to the Soho location.

Each of the 30 panels was produced in 10mm tempered low-iron glass and printed with a precision ceramic ink frit pattern. This pattern distributes the blue LED light evenly across the surface and prevents visible hotspots. In addition, selected panels incorporated the studio name and logo to reinforce brand identity within the partitions themselves.

Although the visual direction had been established, the fixing strategy required further development. Therefore, Spanlite designed the aluminium top and bottom channel system that secures each panel in place. To control costs and simplify logistics, we specified and sourced the structural components within the United States rather than shipping them from the UK.

We manufactured the illuminated glass panels in the UK, completed quality checks in our workshop and coordinated shipment to New York. The contractor then installed the system on site in accordance with our technical guidance.

Beyond the partitions, we supplied nine laminated glass balustrade panels with Sentry interlayer for the staircases leading up to the studio. We also produced two edge-lit acrylic wall signs to complement the illuminated glass features.

TECHNICAL DETAILS

The bespoke glass wall partitions measure 1800mm in height, with widths ranging from 317mm to 1409mm across the installation. Because each location required a specific dimension and graphic layout, we prepared detailed fabrication drawings for every panel before production began.

We used 10mm tempered low-iron glass to maximise clarity and colour consistency under blue LED illumination. The ceramic ink frit pattern was digitally applied and kiln-fired into the glass, which ensures durability and precise light diffusion.

The balustrade panels were manufactured as laminated glass units incorporating Sentry interlayer to increase structural strength and impact resistance. Meanwhile, the aluminium channel system secures the partitions at both top and bottom while maintaining a minimal visual profile.

Blue LED light bars edge-light the panels evenly, and UL-approved drivers ensure compliance with US electrical standards. Consequently, the partitions function as both architectural dividers and illuminated design features within the studio.

All illuminated glass components were manufactured in the UK and shipped to NYC, while structural fixings were sourced locally in line with our specification.
